Where is my blanket????????????????????

Imagine a cool climate, a cozy bed, a warm blanket and a spongy stuffed tiger to hug..........................Dont you feel like curling up??????
Now imagine if in the middle of this peaceful and luxurious slumber, you find yourselves devoid of your warm blanket.............. Well its realy easy for us to find the blanket and curl underneath it and return back to our heavenly sleep.
But for Calvin, its not so easy, since its Hobbes , from whom he has to snatch back his blanket.
But finally, look who is snapped out of the deep sleep?????

Calvin's Parents - Straight from Bill Watterson

In words of Bill Watterson:-
I've never given Calvin's parents names, because as far as the strip is concerned, they are important only as Calvin's mom and dad. Calvin's dad has been rumored to be a self-portrait. All my characters are half me, so it's true in some ways, but Calvin's dad is also partly a satire of my own father. Any strip about how suffering "builds character" is usually a verbatim transcript of my dad's explanations for why we were all freezing, exhausted, hungry, and lost on camping trips. These things are a lot funnier after twenty-five years have passed.
Calvin's mom is the daily disciplinarian, a job that taxes her sanity, so I don't think we get to see her at her best. I regret that the strip mostly shows her impatient side, but I try to hint at other aspects of her personality and her interests by what she's doing when Calvin barges in.
We usually only see Calvin's parents when they're reacting to Calvin, so as secondary characters, I've tried to keep Calvin's parents realistic, with a reasonable sense of humor about having a kid like Calvin. I think they do a better job than I would.

Calvin and Hobbes - The first strip

Ever wondered, how calvin and hobbes met, how it all started with a "tiger trap + tuna fish sandwich".

Check out the first Calvin and Hobbes strip which was published on Nov 18, 1985. I will celebrate Nov 18 as CnH Day from now onwards. :)

About Calvin - Straight from Bill Watterson

In Words of Bill Watterson:-
Calvin is named for a sixteenth-century theologian who believed in predestination.
Most people assume that Calvin is based on a son of mine, or based on detailed memories of my own childhood.
In fact, I don't have children, and I was a fairly quiet, obedient kid - almost Calvin's opposite.
One of the reasons that Calvin's character is fun to write is that I often don't agree with him.

About Hobbes - Straight from Bill Watterson

In Words of Bill Watterson:-
Hobbes has the patient dignity and common sense of most animals I've met.
Hobbes was very much inspired by one of our cats, a gray tabby named Sprite.
Sprite not only provided the long body and facial characteristics for Hobbes, she also was the model for his personality.
She was good-natured, intelligent, friendly, and enthusiastic in a sneaking-up-and-pouncing sort of way.
Sprite suggested the idea of Hobbes greeting Calvin at the door in midair at high velocity.

Either lunch or books!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As usual, Calvin is late for school-bus, and now he forgets his lunch too. Finally when his Mom manages to get him to school with his lunch, check out what he forgets.

With the perfect expressions, Bill Watterson has proved again that
Expressions speaks louder than words!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love Defined - The Hobbes Way

Another Calvin and Hobbes Classic. This one explains the "Medical Definition" of love - The Hobbes way.
But what I love more in this strip are the opening two dialogues between Calvin and Susie:-

Susie : Hey Calvin, Are we near a Slaughterhouse, Or Did you forget your Deodorant?
Calvin : Drop Dead Susie ! You're so ugly, I hear your mom puts a bag over your head before she kisses you Good Night !!
Calvin : It's Shameless, the way we flirt.

About Susie - Straight from Bill Waterson

Susie is earnest, serious, and smart - The kind of girl I was attracted to in school and eventually married. "Derkins" was the nickname of my wife's family's beagle.

Calvin Blackmailed

One of those rare occasions when you feel pity for poor Calvin. This time, Susie is the tormentor. Read the strip above and enjoy it. ;-)

Calvin's Mom Big Accomplishment

This one is a classic again, depicting Calvin's mom Big Accomplishment. The great sarcasm in this strip is that calvin can even insult himself in order to insult others whenever he gets a chance. Too good and hillarious !!!

Ad for Dad

Uptil now, you must have seen classified ads for Bride, Groom or something else. Ever heard of "Ad for Dad". Check out this strip. The expressions of Calvin and Dad are too good. ;-)

Calvin - The contract boy

These cartoon strips depicts the great acumen of Calvin when he asks to sign contract to "Moe - The school bully", Dad, "Miss WormWood - The Teacher", Susie and lastly Hobbes for their behaviour (good or bad) with Calvin. Except Susie, everybody refuses to sign the contracts. As usual, calvin is at his insulting best when asking people to sign the contract. But in the end, Susie insults him more by signing the contract at the speed of light. :)
My favourite is one with the Hobbes here. "People are friends because they want to be, not because they have to be". Very true - Friendship (or infact any relationship) cannot be based on terms and contracts. They exist because they just meant to be. Hobbes rocks !!!

Celebrations on getting "A"

Being a non-performing student, it is a rare phenomenon for Calvin to get good grades in class tests. Check out his way of celebrating his "A" in the grandest way you an think of. A full length parade on a open limousine with crowd cheering for him plus a huge statue of Calvin - The Genius Boy...

Calvin's Mom Special

The Silent Mom - How she communicates Telepathically :)

And this one is classic. So much demands of Calvin. And Mom finishes off the strip in most sarcastic way you can think of - "Your Majesty's Sandwich".

Wake up Mom in the middle of night and ask her a stupid question, she is sure going to be angry.

The Lost Mind of Calvin. Mom at her sarcastic best again.

Definition of Love - The Mom's way. Too Good and hillarious. :)

The quiet sarcasm of Hobbes

Sometimes Hobbes is at loss of words while talking with Calvin (as Calvin says). Do you know the reason for that? Check out this strip for getting the answer. The witty and quiet sarcasm of Hobbes is too good. It also teaches us something which we can try to follow in our real life too!!!

Calvin, Hobbes & Susie

This is another classic one. Hobbes generally is very much inclined towards females and hence Susie too. This inclination towards Susie irritates Calvin to a great extent. The last cartoon block in this strip which depicts Hobbes’s smiling face can’t stop you from laughing.

How to become a millionaire - The Calvin Way

This is one of the classic Calvin strip beautifully describing Calvin's ingenuity which makes everyone speechless. Calvin tells his Dad that he want to become millionaire by the time he grows up. His dad smiles and as an ideal dad, he tells him that he would have to work pretty hard to reach that feat. But as usual Calvin comes up with a brilliant counter argument making it so witty.

Welcome to the world of Calvin and Hobbes

This blog is purely dedicated to my favourite cartoon characters - Calvin and his stuffed tiger Hobbes. If you dont know enough about Calvin and Hobbes, let me give you a brief introduction about them and their world:-

Calvin – Well no introduction needed for those who know and love him. If you are not in that league, here is a brief character sketch of him. Calvin is a hyeractive 6 year old kid. He is very smart, very imaginative to us but in his world he is considered a weird, stupid, crazy boy. Calvin has no friends, except his stuffed tiger “Hobbes” (we’ll talk about him later). Calvin has dreams, fantasies and a very vivid imagination. He is a great philosopher and posses great wisdom though it is rarely used. Calvin loves to be defiant.

Hobbes – Calvin’s stuffed tiger which miraculously comes to life when no one is around. Calvin spent major part of his time with hobbes. He is Calvin’s best and only friend. They share ideas, they fight, and they laugh together. To the whole world, he is a just a stuffed toy but in reality, Calvin is incomplete without him. Both complement each other. Though we may call the living Hobbes as a figment of Calvin's imagination but Hobbes depicts the sensible side of Calvin. Again this shows that calvin shows his sensible side only when he is alone.

Susie – Calvin’s classmate, neighbour and arch-rival. She is one person whom Calvin loves to hate. Susie is a good girl and a brilliant student. She is very neat, does all her work properly and is an ideal child. All her qualities are exactly contrary to Calvin and this makes them poles apart. Infact she is the reason for Calvin to found the club “G.R.O.S.S” which stands for “Get Rid Of Slimy Girls”.

There are more characters in Calvin’s life – his Mom, Dad, Teacher. We will talk about them soon.
