Calvin and Chewing Gum

Calvin loves to chew gum. He not only loves to chew them but also loves to read about them. He gets a monthly magazine on chewing gum. (Only Calvin can get that :D ).

Here are three strips which refer chewing gums and their magazines...

The last strip was published on Dec 22, 1995, few days before the Calvin and Hobbes strip ended. In this strip, it looks like that Bill Watterson is making a reference to the fact that while he loves to draw cartoons and enjoys drawing the strip, it requires a different level of effort, thinking and perseverance to maintain high level of standards that the strip has achieved to this date. Over time, it is becoming increasingly difficult for him to sustain such high standards diminishing his level of enjoyment while drawing these strips. Ultimately the curtains came down on the strip about a week later.

Calvin works ONLY under pressure

One of the strips which reinforces the fact that Calvin is best at procrastinating things till last moment. His logic is that he works better under pressure. Hobbes corrects him by saying that Calvin works "only" under pressure. Perfect explanation by both of them.

Sea-saw with Snow Ball

I am sure all of us would have played Sea-Saw in the park with our friends. Imagine how it would have been, had it been a snow-ball instead of our friends.

Well, looks like, Calvin’s second best friend, next to Hobbes, is Snow-Ball. And he does have a blasting time playing Sea-Saw with a Snow ball.

Calvin Fooled

One of the few strips where the cunning Calvin is fooled and that too by Hobbes. :)

Loved the Hobbes's 25 cent thought - "A fool and his money are soon par...." ;-) Rest calvin does not allow him to finish it.

Calvin at his sarcastic best

A very witty sarcasm by calvin about the present day world. The philosopher in calvin strikes back with ferocious intensity. Sometimes a single line can convey tonnes of meanings to comprehend.

First mention of Susie

This is the first strip which gives reference to Susie, though her name is not mentioned anywhere in this strip. Hobbes is at his intriguing and teasing best. Check out the last block - "Do you Like her" ;-)

Calvin's Wagon

Calvin's wagon is a simple device to add some physical comedy to the strip, and I most often use it when Calvin gets longwinded or philosophical. I think the action lends a silly counterpoint to the text, and it's a lot mort interesting to draw than talking heads. Sometimes the wagon ride even acts as a visual metaphor for Calvin's topic of discussion.

Calvin's New Year Resolution

Hello Friends, Happy New Year to all of you!!!! Well, 2007 has gone by and we have resumed our journey with 2008. It has been an eventful year, with a mixture of happenings and emotions. But whether to paint them on the darker side or the brighter side, falls entirely upon us. There might have been some junctions along the 2007 road, where we could have or wished to have stayed a little more longer, there might also be junctions which we would rather have missed. But, turning a little philosophical, if we look back at the gone-by year, every incident, every person we met, would have taught us something, a small thought or a big value. As someone said, the existence of humanity is the struggle to improve(or did anyone say this?? don't know), some of us might have taken New Year Resolutions to be a better person or to achieve something. Achieving something can range across a wide variety. It can span from learning to whistle(using fingers) to loosing weight to finding a life partner. (All real examples from my friends :) ). Some of us might have taken a resolution to change something about ourselves, which mostly would have taught us a BIG lesson last year. Whatever your resolutions are, here's wishing you the very best in achieving all those!!!!! Our dear friend Calvin also seems to have some resolution or does he? Wishing you all a great 2008 !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy New Year - Calvin Way

Wishing all the Calvin and Hobbes fans a very Happy and Prosperous New Year 2008.

Enjoy the first strip of this year. Thanks to Dhanya for sharing it. This strip is just to depict Calvin's way of making New Year Resolution. He hate changes but then he can't live without them too. :)

Where is my blanket????????????????????

Imagine a cool climate, a cozy bed, a warm blanket and a spongy stuffed tiger to hug..........................Dont you feel like curling up??????

Now imagine if in the middle of this peaceful and luxurious slumber, you find yourselves devoid of your warm blanket.............. Well its realy easy for us to find the blanket and curl underneath it and return back to our heavenly sleep.

But for Calvin, its not so easy, since its Hobbes , from whom he has to snatch back his blanket.

But finally, look who is snapped out of the deep sleep?????
